The musical setting of the Latin hymn Te Deum laudamus was written shortly before Dvorak's departure for America. This text meant a lot to the composer and, in his conception, the work brings together the sacred music tradition so familiar to Dvorak from Czech church choirs, and the majestic oratorio style.
