In 1892, Dvorák was honored to receive a commission from New York to compose a festive cantata to mark the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus’s discovery of America. Within a short space of time, he had composed his impressive Te Deum, which in four contrasting sections joyfully interprets the ancient hymn of praise.
