This opera in three acts is based on a libretto by Jaroslav Kvapil inspired by the play 'The sunken bell' by the German playwright Gerhard Hauptmann. It tells a tragical story, similar to the 'Undine' legend: a water nymph, Rusalka, wants to become a human being because she has fallen in love with a prince.
