This is the third song in a five song set titled “Appalachian Stories”. This individual piece, “Down In A Coalmine” is sturdy and begins hymn like. Each pieces uses a stylish Appalachian fiddle and here the fiddle handles the segue from the opening hymn style to a dance as they tell the story of the workers who travel “deep into the coal, deep underneath the ground”.
