The composer says: "My “Pocket Sonata” was written for Brazilian guitarist Paulo Martelli to perform on his New York debut recital and functioned on this program as the requisite “world premiere” written by a living composer. Written just behind and right after my 50 minute “Sonata no. 3,” this much shorter Sonata was conceived to fit in a traditional guitar concert and, if guitarists have a muse in charge of programming, to fit comfortably in her pocket!"
