These eight duets are so designed that any upper part may be played with any lower part, resulting in 56 possible ‘new’ duets (on top of the original ones).

The idea is to help students improve their listening skills, heighten their auditory awareness and experience the perceptual immediacy of music. While playing his/her part, the student will keep one ear closely tuned to the musical “character” of his/her specific duet partner.
