John Blow (1649-1708), English composer and organist was Henry Purcell?s teacher for a time, although he was Purcell?s senior by only ten years. Today, Blow?s reputation is still overshadowed by Purcell, not because his music is less worthy but rather because it is simply less available. John Blow was capable of creating music of remarkable worth as this prelude proves - it is simple, unpretentious but also strikingly beautiful.
