The Seguidilla is an ancient Spanish dance of Castilian origin, present in the Opera CARMEN, where it is sung as an aria by our Heroine who in this way tries to seduce the captain of the guards Don José who has arrived to arrest her.

In fact, Don José, in this very aria, joins in her singing, and loosening the knots of the ties on her wrists allows the gypsy to free herself by wriggling away from him, running away aided by the crowd who meanwhile holds back the soldiers.
