Johann Samuel Beyer (1669–1744) assumed the position of Kantor at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Freiberg (Saxony) in 1699. Between 1716 and 1719 his Musicalische Vorrath (Musical source), a comprehensive collection of two-part chorale variations for organ or other keyboard instruments was published.
