The two sonatas by the young Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach are clearly influenced by his famous father, but at the same time already reveal the expressive and idiosyncratic composer of the pre-classical period. In the minuet movements, Bach places variations with large tonal leaps alongside the character variation, thus composing an attractive game with changing tonal colours for flutists.
