Johann Sebastian Bach composed a large quantity of music of unparalleled greatness and his works are still much performed today. This Prelude is deceptive. It is built on very few ideas and has none of the catchy melodies often found in his music. It does, however, have a sublime, haunting beauty, which grows as the piece unfolds.
