American composer Leroy Anderson is said to have written this light, bubbly Christmas during a heatwave in July 1948. Mitchell Parish wrote the text in 1950. Since then, many artists such as the Carpenters, Ella Fitzgerald and Diana Ross have performed and recorded the song. This arrangement for ensemble with variable instrumentation (drums ad lib.) remains faithful to the original version.
