The “Suite for Orchestra No. 6” op. 40, the first edition of which is here available, is the last of the numbered and opus numbered works of this genre. It contains exclusively parts from the music for the French movie “Le grand jeu” (The Great Game). This now forgotten film by Charles Spaak (screenplay) and Jacques Feyder (screenplay and direction) was shot in autumn 1933, in Eisler's first year in exile. At the first performance in April 1934 in Paris it had a great success. The press also praised the music.
