Vorliegende Ricercari gehören zu den zweifelhaften Werken Palestrinas, von denen kein Originaldruck oder Autograph bekannt ist. Haberl hat sie in den 32. Band der Gesamtausgabe der Werke Palestrinas (S. 80 ff.) aus einer im Nachlass Bainis befindlichen Abschrift G. Chitis aufgenommen. Sie sind streng motettisch komponiert, d.h. sie führen einzelne Themen (3-5) abschnittsweise durch. Die Reihenfolge der Ricercari entspricht der Ordnung der acht Kirchentonarten: Dorisch, Hypodorisch, Phrygisch, Hy...
