Arnold Trowell was born in Wellington, New Zealand on 25.6.1887; he died in Hawkhurst, England on 25.11.1966. In his day he was highly esteemed as a cellist, teacher and composer. His first cello teacher was his father. Belgian cellist Jean Gérardy, who stayed in Wellington for a short time on a concert tour, gave the talented Arnold a few cello lessons. At the age of 16 Trowell moved to Frankfurt, where he took lessons with Hugo Becker. He went on to take lessons with Edouard Jacobs in Brussels...
