The Latvian composer Vytautas Miškinis (*1954) has become one of the internationally most prominent composers of the middle generation from the Baltic States. Initially, 'Missa brevis', which is subtitled 'Missa Sancti Martini' in honour of the patron saint of the Mainz Cathedral, was originally commissioned by the girls' choir of the Cathedral and of St. Quintin's Church in Mainz.
