Description
Op. 96 exists in two authentic versions: a version with orchestral accompaniment and a version for organ. Mendelssohn published the version for organ as “Drei geistliche Lieder” (CV 40.166/03). The version with orchestra appeared under the title “Hymne für Altsolo, Chor und Orchester” (CV 40.166) and it contained, in addition to the three sacred songs, a concluding fugue.
