Description
Of the five surviving St. Luke Passions by Telemann, this first printing of the Passion of 1744 distinguishes itself first with, aside from expressive arias, the dramatic choruses. In contrast to his other Passions, Telemann only uses three chorales here: as an opening, during the scene on the Mount of Olives, and as a closing. This setting of the Passion is an full-evening of music of only moderate difficulty and moderate scoring requirements.
